Learning To Drive

How long will It take to learn ?

That's the $64,000 question! What you need to bear in mind is everyone is different and some people learn quicker than others. Also remember there is no such thing as too much practice, the more you practice the better you should be. After you have had a few driving lessons with your Driving Instructor he or she should be able to give you a good estimate based on your driving lessons so far.

Following a recent survey by the DSA they made the following statement "Those who pass their driving test have had, on average, about 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice. Learners who prepare this way, with a combination of plenty of professional training and plenty of practice, do better in the test." Following on from that survey, have a look at the table below, this is to be used as a guide only and the figures are based on a regular 2 hours a week instruction.

How many lessons will I need ? (hours)

AGE---- FAST---- AVERAGE---- SLOW
17-19--- 26-29---- 35-40-------- 51-76
20------ 27-30----- 37-42-------- 53-78
22------ 28-32----- 39-45-------- 57-80
26------ 30-35----- 44-50-------- 65-84
30------ 32-39----- 50-56-------- 70-92
34------ 34-42----- 54-62-------- 76-96
40------ 37-47----- 60-70 --------89-106
50------ 42-57----- 76-90-------- 112-132
60------ 47-68----- 88-108------- 130+

If you have more lessons over a short period of time this could help reduce the amount of lessons you have, remember, everyone is different.

If you need any advice please do not hesitate to ask.
